STATEMENT

To speak in images is to transfuse thought.
My work explores the movement of thought from the creator's mind to her hands, through technology and into the life of the viewer. With a prominent interest in psychology, theory, discourse, literature and history, I have implemented film and photography through channels of personal narrative, cultural and individual identity and the illusive totality of perception and abandoned sites. I blend digital and analogue techniques, employ optical printing and hand development in filmmaking and leave room for surprise in my process. I'm currently exploring various methods of re-photography, sound construction and manipulation with found footage source materials.
Studying in Prague, I was inspired by the work of Eastern European filmmakers who made art with few resources. Lacking in money, working outside of an established cinematic tradition they produced films with a folky earthiness that astonished me. I am interested in the investigation of figurative and literal wounds to obtain further knowledge of self and place, while cultivating a mythology and alternate selves. My works are geared towards detail, process and other elements that mark them as documents.
